There are two types of bonsai plants online:-

Over watering- The main and common reason is that bonsai plants are planted in a poor soil that retains too much of water. If you do over watering for few months , that lead to root-rot, in the mean while you can see the tree will be losing their strength and dropping leaves. You must pour water when the soil get slightly dry. Once the tree grow better , repot it in better soil.
Under watering- this is also common. A tiny pot is enough to plant the bonsai plants. If you forget watering, then your tree roots die off and the tree will die. In over watering the tree may lose the strength and with under watering the drop drop their leaves within days.

Outdoor bonsai plants: These plants to be kept outside over the year. The species of outdoor bonsai are juniper and Chinese elm. Juniper is evergreen plant and elm is deciduous tree that drops its leaves during the winter and autumn season. Assume that your tree losing leaves not because of the season but to some problem, this is what you should look after :- over watering is common problem, the tree has a pest or disease, too much or too less of fertilization also lead to your tree losing strength and drop leaves.
